The Monday Nights New Voices: Chicago series will continue Aug. 17 at Davenport's Cabaret with an evening devoted to the original songs of Chicago native Will Reynolds.

The 8 PM concert will feature the talents of Matthew Amador (How Can You Run...), Taube Brahms (Goodman's Trip To Bountiful), Keith Byron Kirk (Miss Saigon, The Civil War), Spencer Curnutt (Steppenwolf's Up), Elana Ernst (Mamma Mia!), Heidi Kettenring (Wicked), Steven McQuown (Girls vs. Boys), Rashad Naylor (Jersey Boys) and Kayla Roy (Chicago Shakespeare's Macbeth).

Andy Einhorn is musical director.

Will Reynolds is an actor/singer-songwriter born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, now living in New York City. His musical The Sixth Borough, written with Eric Price, has been workshopped at the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and at Indiana University's Premier Musicals program. Reynolds is also the creator of The Greenwood Tree, a musical with text by Shakespeare, which was first workshopped at the Carnegie Melon School of Drama and can now be found on iTunes under its former title, Sighs of Fire. As an actor, he toured North America with Mamma Mia!

The New Voices: Chicago series is produced by David Tomczak and Kevin Emrick in association with composer Scott Alan.

New Voices: Chicago is proud to present an exciting evening with the 2009 Johnny Mercer Songwriter's Project on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

The special concert will feature the 11 talented songwriters and composing teams of The 2009 Mercer Project. This year?s participants include: Dany Abosch, Jordean Beck & Jonathan May, Obed Bermudez & Jennifer Pena, Ben Camp, Michael Cooper & Hyeyoung Kim, Graham Fink, Samuel Hall Flanigan, Robert Gontier & Nicole Phillips, Riley Thomas Markey, Femke Weidma, and Emily Pritchard as they perform their freshly written material. It will also feature this year's guest Master Teachers: Tony Award-nominated composer and lyricist, Craig Carnelia; Tony Award-winning composer, lyricist, and star of the musical In The Heights, Lin-Manuel Miranda; and three-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, Lari White.

Severing as Music Director, Dan Stetzel, will accompany vocalists including Amanda De La Guardia, and others soon be announced.

The exciting series, produced by David Tomczak, in association with composer Scott Alan, has been embraced by the Chicago theatre community and continues its tradition of bringing together rising talent. New Voices: Chicago strives to showcase talent on both a local and a national level and provides an intimate atmosphere for the audience to become included in witnessing the development of contemporary musical theatre.

The Johnny Mercer Foundation is a nonprofit organization devoted to preserving and celebrating the work of Johnny Mercer and other great American songwriters, and introducing their music to a new generation through educational programs for students from elementary through college age. The Foundation also supports charitable organizations through royalties from Mercer?s more than 1,500 songs. This year marks the centennial of Mercer?s birth. An audience favorite, this evening of original music features the works of emerging songwriters from across the country who represent the fields of pop, music theatre, folk, Latin and country music. Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project, Johnny Mercer Celebration Concert with guest artists Liz Callaway and Capathia Jenkins, 8 p.m. Saturday, June 27, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive. A special one-night-only concert featuring Broadway stars Liz Callaway (?Merrily We Roll Along,? ?Baby?) and Capathia Jenkins (?Caroline, or Change?) and celebrating the centennial of Johnny Mercer?s birth. The evening also features performances by Tony Award-nominated composer/lyricist Craig Carnelia, Tony Award-winning composer/performer Lin-Manuel Miranda and Grammy Award-winning Nashville singer/songwriter Lari White, as well as talented young songwriters participating in the Mercer Songwriters Project. The Monday Nights, New Voices series returns to Chicago Aug. 11 with an evening at the Chicago Center for Performing Arts.

The 7:30 PM concert features the work of Broadway composer Andrew Lippa, who will make a guest appearance. Among those scheduled to sing Lippa tunes are Ginny Brazier, Cat Davis, Jamie Finkenthal, Julia Gordon, Angela Ingersoll and Andrew Keltz as well as Vanjah Boikai, Missy Karle and Andy Planck. Alison Kane is music director.

Monday Nights, New Voices is produced by David Tomczak and Allen Sledge in association with composer Scott Alan. The series, which also plays New York's Duplex, "strives to offer artistic opportunity to talent on both a local and a national level and provides a chance for its audience to be included in the artistic development process of theatre."

Andrew Lippa has written the scores for the Off-Broadway productions of The Wild Party and john & jen. He also contributed songs to the Broadway revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Lippa's most recent projects include A Little Princess, Asphalt Beach and Jerry Christmas. The composer is the recipient of a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Grammy nomination.

The acclaimed New York series, Monday Nights New Voices, now in its fourth season, makes its official debut in Chicago April 21st at Gentry On State.

This concert series was created by composer and performer Scott Alan, who is currently receiving praise for his debut CD, Dreaming Wide Awake. The CD features Alan’s original compositions being sung by Broadway’s brightest.

In the past, Monday Nights New Voices has had such composers as Stephen Schwartz, Michael John LaChiusa, Andrew Lippa, Stephen Flaherty, Ricky Ian Gordon, and Joe Iconis. Past hosts have included stars such as Shoshana Bean, Sutton Foster, Jenna Leigh Green, Cheyenne Jackson, and Lauren Kennedy. Several of the featured ‘new voices’ have gone on to successful careers in the industry such as: Rashad Naylor, who is currently in Chicago’s Jersey Boys, Brian Crum, who premiered in Chicago’s Altar Boyz, Marla Mindelle, who is on tour with the Drowsy Chaperone and Jenny Powers, who was seen in Little Women.

Monday Nights New Voices: Chicago will follow the same format of honoring rising talent but will focus primarily on Chicago’s gems. The series premiere, produced by Allen Sledge and David Tomczak in association with Scott Alan, will feature current star of Broadway in Chicago’s Wicked, Dee Rosciolo, as guest host. Also from Wicked will be the evening’s music director, Colin Welford.

The evening is proud to honor the songwriting team Jeff Thomson and Jordan Mann, winners of the 2008 Jonathan Larson Award. Chicago was introduced to Thomson and Mann in 2005 when their musical, The New Kid, was part of the Disney/ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop.

The ‘new voices’ being honored are Jennlee Shallow, Jamie Finkenthal, Riley Thomas, and two Jeff Award winners, Michael Mahler and Cat Davis.

Monday Nights New Voices: Chicago will provide an opportunity for Chicago to embrace its own musical theatre community while welcoming its rising participants.

Monday Nights, New Voices Series Goes Global

The acclaimed Monday Nights, New Voices concert series — produced by Scott Alan and seen regularly at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre in Manhattan — is spreading its wings.

New Voices concerts, created to shine the spotlight on new talent, will be seen later this month in Chicago and Manila, Philippines.

The Manila premiere will be held April 14 at 8:30 PM at the Mag:net Cafe. Produced by Mahar Mangahas and Laura Cabochan in association with creator Alan, the evening will feature the voices of Caisa Borromeo, the aforementioned Cabochan, Fame Flores, Marvin Ong and Felix Rivera. The singers will perform the work of composer Rony Fortich, who penned the children's puppet show Noah's Big Boat and the title song for Stages of Love.

Actress-director Chari Arespacochaga will host the evening.

The Chicago premiere will be seen a week later on April 21 at Gentry on State and will, according to press notes, "provide an opportunity for Chicago to embrace its own musical theatre community while welcoming its rising participants." Dee Roscioli, who portrays Elphaba in the Chicago production of Wicked, will host the evening, which will feature musical direction by Colin Welford.

Among the "new voices" who will perform are Jennlee Shallow, Jamie Finkenthal, Riley Thomas, Michael Mahler and Cat Davis. The songwriting team of Jeff Thomson and Jordan Mann, winners of the 2008 Jonathan Larson Award, will also be honored.

The Chicago concert is being produced by Allen Sledge and David Tomczak in association with Alan.
